Feb 24, 2022:
Councillors Ben Isitt and Jeremy Loveday proposed the "Protection of the Ivy Place Greenway in Perpetuity as a Natural Area" at the Feb 24th Committee of the Whole (COTW) meeting.
They seeked "Council endorsement of designating the Ivy Place Greenway as a biologically diverse natural area and closing the greenway to vehicle traffic".
It is a rare occasion that we get to preserve a bit of Victoria in a natural state, and we now have such an opportunity in front of us now.
The Committee of the Whole (COTW) voted unanimously in favour of the motion with positive feedback from Councillors Ben Isiit, Jeremy Loveday and Marianne Alto.

HISTORY:
Aug 5, 2015: Our grant application for the enhancement of the Ivy Place Greenway has been approved unanimously by the City of Victoria Council.
Aug to Oct, 2015: You may have noticed that improvements are on their way. Our first target - get rid of invasive plants that are smothering the native plants. We also have a plan for adding new native plants.
Nov 15, 2015: We had a work party and planted more than 200 native shrubs, perennials and bulbs. We also started to realign the path to address the drainage issues in winter.
Nov 22, 2015: Work party to plant, remove invasives and create a trail that could be used in wet conditions.
Dec 2015: More planting.
Spring 2016: Spring came to life with Red Flowering Currants, Camas and other flowers and plants. Hummingbirds built a nest and raised their young.
